Re-creating Pueblo Bonita with Pythagoras

Studens will be able to explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse by applying it to real world and mathematical problems connecting to the Indigenous People.

Transforming art with math

As with most cultures, art plays an integral role in definition. It is no different in Pueblo communities. Students will describe types of transformations that relate points by the motion of reflections, rotations and translations and methods for identifying and creating symmetric figures

What Would Pythagoras Think of Pueblo Bonito?

Though there are many math lessons that can be connected to sacred site, in this unit will simply focus on the structures of the circular Kivas and how mathematics today can help us understand the complex minds of our ancestors.

Mathematics in Our Creator’s Gifts

Designed to help students reconnect with the knowledge that Pueblo People were mathematicians who adapted to their needs in order to sustain a way of life for generations.

Our Environment and Way of Life

Students can identify geometric shapes and structures in their community and categorize the figures according to similar properties, which may include areas of farming, homes, sidewalks, etc.

Mathematics All Around Us

Measuring, geometric principles, recognition of shapes and more knowledge was involved in order to build houses made of adobes and other materials. Students will use observational skills to discover geometric shapes within the structures of houses and buildings.
